The new rules include relaxation of travel regulations for American citizens into the country and easing the limits of the use the US dollar in trade, a move which could further bolster economic ties between the two nations.
The relaxed travel restrictions, combined with the resumption of regularly scheduled airline service to Cuba later this year, will greatly increase the ability of Americans to visit the ‘once-forbidden’ island.
This the fifth round of new rules the Obama administration has announced since opening up diplomatic relations with Cuba in 2014.
President Obama will be the first sitting US president to visit Cuba in 88 years.
